Operation U2....DENVER....Day 1

May 19, 2011

What a horrible, horrible time for me to go anywhere. I've got the world's worst sinus infection...which stems from the week before, having the world's worst allergies. So, not much has got done...or at least what I wanted to get done. I wanted to spend some good quality time with Brady...but instead spent it with a roll of toilet paper (I don't buy kleenex's)...allergy meds...and pounding sinus pressure. But, I managed to sob my way through my last night with him. I said "when you're sad...where is mommy" and he put his little hand on his chest and said "in my heart". I lost it. He has his pillowpet penguin (thanks to Aunt Nise!) which he so fittingly named "Mommy Pengiun". I said when you miss mommy, what do you do?" and he said "cuddle with my mommy pengiun!!" He's so precious. But, nonetheless, I still had to leave my baby. As a last second attempt, he said "mom! I want to hide in your suitcase!"

After about the worst interuppted 2 hours of sleep I've ever had, I woke at up 2am to head to the airport. Yah, early flight. Ridiculously early. Anyhow, I popped a benedryl when I got on the plane. It's was odd...I've flown about 20 flights with my little man so I'm used to him sleeping in my lap...the window shade constantly going up and down...and hearing him talk. So, sleeping on a plane is a RARE occasion. This was the second time I had ever flown without him. Bittersweet. Anyhow, popped that benedryl and was OUT. I remember waking up to the captain saying "I've put the seatbelt sign on...apparently we're going to have a bumpy ride all fo the way to Denver." Nice, right? Then the plane started shaking so bad that I closed my eyes and the next thing I know, I wake up to the entire plane shaking like crazy...thought we were crashing...so I opened my window shade. We had landed. Crisis averted.

So, since we had landed, we (mom and I) found it appropriate to begin planning our trip. We didn't know where to go or how we were going to get there. Literally. Took us about 30 minutes to figure out we wanted to rent a car. Took the Enterprise shuttle to get a car and found out they had NO cars and told us it was a "popular graduation weekend". Strike 1. So, we had to go back to the airport and finally found another shuttle to take us to a noname rental company. So..we got us a car.

We googled some hotals as we were waiting for the car and punched the Hyatt Regency in to my GPS. Got a room....and I bet you can't guess what we did next?! That's right...crawled under the covers and, took more benedryl...ordered room service and took a nice, long nap!!!

We didn't do too much today. It was cold, and rainy. And by cold, I mean like 41 degrees.

We found out we were close to 16th street mall...so we decided to walk over there. Found some neat little stores and great places to eat. Ate dinner at the Corner Bakery but due to my second massive cough attack, I didn't eat much. I was feeling absolutely miserable and just wanted drugs and sleep. So, came back to the room, rented a movie on TV, and zonked out! Until tomorrow!!
